This is a story about a 15-year-old girl who came to our home when she was only 12, a referred case by JKM (Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat) under the Child Protection Act 1991 from her biological family. This girl needed a safe home, a loving and caring environment and stability to safeguard her until adulthood. Despite receiving numerous threats from her biological family, our children’s home and all our committee members, especially our founder, Tan Sri Clement Hii, persisted in giving her a safe and secure home under his protection.
At our children’s home, under the guidance of Tan Sri, all committee members, staff members and kind donors and sponsors worked together with only one goal, which was to ensure this young girl was and continues to be protected from harm, given due care and lots of love and, most importantly, education.
A young girl who, at 12, had never been to school and was neglected by her biological family, had to go begging on the streets for food, and endured different types of abuse finally found a haven with our children’s home and lots of kind-hearted people showering her with endless love and care for her. Our founder, Tan Sri Clement Hii, provided her with the protection and security she needed most at that time and continues to care for her under his wings.
We are proud of this young girl who, from only being able to speak Cantonese, can now speak 3 other languages – Malay, English and Mandarin. She has also progressed a lot in terms of mental development. She is currently learning and volunteering to help our home and care for our little children, showering them with the love and care that she needed but never obtained from her biological family. This is one of the most profound and heart-warming kindnesses Tan Sri extended to someone who needed his help the most.
