Training for Home’s staff

Those who think that taking care of a group of underprivileged kids doesn’t require much skills obviously have no inkling about child development and the commitment required from caregivers. Unless those taking care of the kids have the necessary skills and knowledge, they will be ill-equipped to look after these children.

So, the Hiichiikok Foundation Home For Children Care received a pleasant surprise when it received an offer to train its care providers on the finer points in raising psychologically healthy kids. The Lighthouse Psychological Wellbeing Centre, which is based in Petaling Jaya, held a workshop for the Home’s care providers.

Three half-day sessions were conducted by psychologists from the centre at the Home itself recently. This was arranged courtesy of supporters and well wishers from the Home. Care providers were taught how psychology related to child development and were given psychological tips on how to raise these physically and mentally healthy children.

To top it off, the centre even offered its psychologists to provide free counselling to children from the Home who needed them. The one-to-one sessions are held twice a week over six months. This provided an invaluable boost for the kids, some of whom came from traumatic family backgrounds.
