Good job protecting our kids!

KUDOS to our Parliament for passing the Sexual Offences Against Children Bill 2017 recently. It is a long overdue legislation to protect anyone below 18 years old from sexual predators.

Unlike adults, minors are more susceptible to sexual assaults as some may not even know that they have fallen victim to such crimes, let alone standing up to their assailants. This is why the law imposes stiff penalties against offenders, including jail of up to 10 years.

Staff of the Hiichiikok Foundation Home For Children Care have come across numerous cases of sexual assault perpetrated against children through our years of experience. Many of these victims suffer traumatic physical and emotional distress long after the crime had been committed. This is why we are all in favour of this law.

Now that the bill has been passed, it is important for the authorities to ensure proper enforcement is carried out. And awareness campaign about sexual crimes against children would also help curb this heinous crime.
