Appreciating our heritage

During the recent Winter Solstice Festival, children in the Home got together to make glutinous rice balls, or tang yuan. Led by Hiichiikok Foundation Manager, Diana Ooi, children were taught what went into making the delicacy often associated with the Chinese festival.

Everyone regardless of race joined in. Diana also explained the history behind the celebration to the children. The kids had a lot of fun making the delicacy, learned about their own culture and that of others, as well as continuing a tradition that dates back centuries ago. Later, everyone naturally enjoyed the meal which they had a hand in making.

In our Home, we make it a point that our children grow up aware of their surroundings and their rich heritage. This helps ensure they enjoy a holistic growth.
